Mindfulness is a mental skill of attention management that positively influences the development of a strong focus, efficiency, adaptability and stress reduction and helps us to be more present in the moment and more aware of ourselves, our thoughts and emotions and our surroundings.
The essence of this skill is creating “a free space” in our brain and mind which enables a short MICRO-DISTANCE of our usual thoughts, emotions and emotional reactions and information that we receive daily from our environment.
That MICRO-DISTANCE gives us a chance to REALLY consider what is happening within ourselves and in front of us (and demands our attention) and helps us base our decisions on real facts, not subjective assumptions and memories from the past.
Instead of REACTING (either neglecting or running away from something that does not appease us or with something that we don’t want to face), thanks to the mentioned MIKRO-DISTANCE, we become capable of consciously RESPONDING to the certain situation and align our daily choices and decisions with changes and goals we want achieve.
“Between stimulus and response, there is a space where we choose our response.”
– Stephen R. Covey (author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People)
In the same way as regular exercise offers great physical fitness benefits, regular Mindfulness training brings us tremendous benefits on a mental and emotional level, which greatly reflects on the level of our motivation, work, energy level, and general satisfaction in life.
